Hakalau artist Eve Furchgott will host a series of open-studio and holiday art sale events at her Wailea town studio this month and next.
Her work includes monoprints, relief prints, paintings and sculptures, as well as holiday and note cards.
“My art is about parts of my everyday life: animals, landscapes, people, plants, food, nature,” said Furchgott.
“Most of my work begins with a drawing of something I’ve noticed that has caught my attention, sketched from life or from a photo I’ve taken,” she added. “I rely more on observation than imagination, though in observing, what I am waiting and looking for is that moment when the ordinary suddenly reveals itself as extraordinary, timeless. This can present itself in different ways: form, color, relationship, contrast, significance. Reality continually amazes me.”
“The open studio will feature recent original work, as well as archival print reproductions.
“Come view the work, see printmaking demos, talk story, find gifts for a friend, or treat yourself. Animal and nature lovers will be happy with the selection,” she said.
The events are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 30 and Dec. 14, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28.
Her studio is at 29-2101 Mamalahoa Highway in Hakalau’s old Wailea town, across from Blue Kalo Bakery.
